FAQs

What pressure should I set my airless sprayer at? ›

How much pressure does a paint spray gun need? Airless sprayers will spray between 1200 to 2500 pounds per square inch (PSI) depending on the tip and paint you are using. To determine the best settings, perform a test spray starting with a lower pressure.

Do you need to thin paint for Graco X5? ›

You said thinning the paint...you dont need to do that. BUT, The box will include a mesh filter. You will need a clean bucket. Fit the mesh over, have someone hold it, and pour paint through the mesh into the clean bucket, then get started painting.

Can Graco X5 spray oil-based paint? ›

This sprayer is designed to provide superior spray performance with water-based and oil-based (mineral spirit-type) architectural paints and coatings. This user information is intended to help you understand the types of materials that can be used with your sprayer.

What is the number one rule when using airless spray guns? ›

Keep a constant distance/angle

The general rule when using an airless paint sprayer is to try and maintain a distance of 12 inches (1 foot) from the surface you're spraying and keep the sprayer perpendicular to it.

What PSI should you spray paint at? ›

15 to 20 psi:Airbrushing, touch-up, shading, sunbursting, and thin finish materials. 20 to 25 psi:Soft, velvet-like coverage, with lacquers in particular. 35 to 45 psi:Average spraying range for sealing and topcoating. 50 psi: waterbase lacquers may need this much pressure.

Can I leave paint in Graco sprayer between coats? ›

Can I leave paint in my sprayer, and for how long? Yes! We would happily leave paint in a sprayer for the day and even overnight if I was using it the following day. However, if you are finished spraying, give it a good clean and get it ready for storage.

Why is my airless paint sprayer not spraying evenly? ›

Uneven Spray Patterns: Uneven spray patterns may occur due to improper pressure settings, worn or damaged spray tips, or inconsistent paint viscosity. To troubleshoot uneven spray patterns, check the pressure settings on the sprayer and adjust them according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

What is a 517 spray tip used for? ›

But, the 517 tip sprays a 10-inch-wide fan, while the 317 sprays a 6-inch-wide fan. Because the same amount of paint is leaving the orifice of the spray tip, but is being dispersed across a wider fan, the 517 tip will deliver a thinner coating with less mil build.

What is a 515 spray tip used for? ›

1. Painting: 515 spray tips are often used in automotive, furniture, and industrial painting applications to apply a smooth, even coat of paint. 2. Coating: 515 spray tips can be used to apply a variety of coatings, such as waterproofing, fireproofing, and anti-corrosion coatings, to surfaces.

What PSI should I run my sprayer? ›

Most AI nozzles perform best at >4 bar (60 psi). Pressure can be used on-the-fly to make minor changes to flow rate while spraying.

What is the recommended pressure for a spray gun? ›

Conventional Spray Guns: Conventional spray guns, which operate at higher pressures, usually require higher air pressure settings. The recommended air pressure for conventional spray guns can range from 40 to 60 PSI.

What pressure should a spray nozzle be? ›

Try to operate at a spray pressure that's in the middle of the nozzle's operating range. For an air-induced nozzle, the range is usually from 30 to 90 psi, so the middle is 60 to 70 psi. That should be the target pressure. Look for a nozzle size that delivers this pressure at your expected travel speed.

How much pressure should be in a spray nozzle outlet? ›

The recommended operating pressure for even flat-fan nozzles is between 20 and 30 psi. The width of the band produced is determined by nozzle height. The band widths produced for various nozzle heights are shown in Table 2.
